Ah, both a good question and a great place to start. To explain what “The Hypatian Calendar” is, and moreover, what makes it something that will change the world, we start with its pieces. After we look at the pieces we will bring them all together in a typical Hypatian Month.
And so, here we begin.
HC’s Pieces:
- Hypatian Days
- Hypatian Weeks
- The Hypatian Period
- Hypatian Months
- Theon Days
Hypatian Days: The Hypatian Days come after the weeks, commonly 4, in a Hypatian month. These days are not a part of any of the 4 weeks. They are only a part of the month. Like weekend days, they are non-workdays. There will be 2 or 3 of these in any given Hypatian month.
Note: No short Februarys. There are no months with just 28 days. They will all have 30 or 31.
Hypatian Weeks: Hypatian weeks are currently calculated to be 7 days in length. 5 workdays followed by 2 non-workdays per week. In time, this will change. “In time”, in this case, means from as little as a couple of decades to possibly as much as a century. The change to the Hypatian week will happen at different times in different cultures and countries and cultures.
The Hypatian Calendar has tremendous flexibility. This flexibility must be exercised carefully. The math related to its changes must be solid.
Note: The days in The Hypatian Calendar’s weeks will all have new names. How many Hypatian Calendars will there be? There will be a global Hypatian Calendar, as well as national Hypatian Calendars in various countries. Given that, the how many will there be is a happy question yet to be answered.
The Hypatian Period: This is it, the Lion. The part of the calendar that roars. It is the Hypatian Period that places the value of human life above the value of money.
The Hypatian Period is composed of the last weekend days of the last week in a Hypatian Month, grouped together with the Hypatian Days in that month. This combination of days forms the Hypatian Period. This being the case, each Hypatian Month will end with a 4 or 5 day Hypatian Period.
These Hypatian Periods will create a number of positive social and economic changes.
Am I sure the changes the Hypatian Period makes in our lives are economically as well as socially positive? Yes. More on that later.
Hypatian Months: Hypatian Months will be 30 to 31 days in length. Each month will start on the first workday of the first week. In the current Julian calendar, this would correspond to a Monday. There will be 4 weeks, plus 2 to 3 Hypatian days in each month. So each month will be 30 to 31 days. No more 28 day months.
Starting each month on the same weekday will provide a stabilizing effect to economic structures related to monthly cycles.
For those working a 5-day workweek cycle paid hourly, a government mandated 8.4% raise in hourly salary will be required to balance the loss of the fraction of a 5th week that currently occurs in the Julian calendar each month.
Theon Days: Theon days replace the current leap day. I have not yet decided whether the Theon Day will be in a given month, or perhaps outside of all months.
For those curious about the name “Theon”, Theon was Hypatia of Alexandria’s father. He provided her with tremendous opportunities to learn and grow. He nurtured her love of learning and her sense of wonder. While in a time of tremendous person growth, he kept her life in sync, and her opportunities abundant.
Note: This calendar is designed to do the same for us.
